MASTERING THE ART OF HOME RENOVATION: 5 KEY ELEMENTS FOR SUCCESS

SOFT BATHROOM LIGHTING
Ever stumbled into your bathroom at night and felt like you stepped into a spotlight? When talking to your electrician, ask them to install a warm task light on an independent circuit. This circuit should link up to two lights:
- A soft glow near or under the toilet.
- A light source by the sink, like a wall sconce, pendant, or something in the mirror.
Just make sure it's warm and soft, it lets you find your way to the toilet and sink without being blinded by overhead lights.

BATHROOM STORAGE
In my experience, you can never have enough storage in a bathroom! The trick is to incorporate as much concealed storage as possible to maintain a clean and clutter-free look. Having easy-to-reach and practical visible storage is also key. Here are a couple of things to think about to make your storage work better:
- Shower and bath niches are a great way to keep bottles off the floor or around the bath edge. Remember, when you create a nice, you're extending the walls, so if there's a way to sneak in some hidden storage underneath, why not? Additional hidden storage!
Think about adding a plug point or a charging station inside the bathroom cabinet. It's a handy way to keep toothbrushes, shavers, and hair dryers tucked away, leaving your vanity area clutter-free.

KITCHEN LIGHTING
For most of my clients, the kitchen is the heart of the home - a spot for cooking, hanging out, and having a good time. Lighting it up just right is key. I'd recommend layered lighting. First off, if you've got the chance, let in as much natural light as possible through big windows or doors. Next, think of task lighting for prepping and cooking—it should light up the whole space from above without blinding anyone. Add in some ambient and accent lighting for a cozy vibe. Wall sconces and pendants do wonders for creating atmosphere. And one final tip: skip the accent light over the sink; dirty dishes are never the star of the show!
